IMG_4408In San Francisco nothing is better for body and soul than biking across the Golden Gate Bridge.

What better thing to do on a vacation than to exercise while experiencing nature at its best.

You can do the eight mile journey from Fisherman’s Wharf to Sausalito in about 2 hours.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Rent a Bike: Of the many places you can rent a bike my go-to rental company is Blazing Saddles (2715 Hyde St.) near Fisherman’s Wharf. They have a super-friendly staff and some great deals. You can rent a bike for 24 hours for $32, but you can find a coupon for a $5 discount at many hotels.
  2. Go for a Ride: The ride will take you across Crissy Field on the bay and then up to the Golden Gate Bridge. Cross the bridge and make your way over to Sausalito for a quick bite.
  3. Have Lunch in Sausalito: This place is like Little Italy along the bay. My personal favorite is Taste of Rome (1000 Bridgeway, Sausalito) for reasonably priced wine, salads and pizza.
  4. Catch the Ferry back to SF: You will see some amazing views of San Francisco as you make your way across the bay. Sit toward the back of the ferry for the most sweeping panoramas and views of Alcatraz, the bay and even some sea life. We spotted some sea lions swimming just off the back of the boat.

San Francisco is a cyclist’s dream. Don’t miss this ride. You’ll never forget it.
